One does not become a leader overnight, it is an incessant process of learning; learning from own mistakes and learning from others’ mistakes. Purpose of learning might vary for person to person; for few it might be for glory, for others it might be for fortune and something else for the rest but there are few traits that they all share in common, traits that make leaders what they are. Not every leader is born with these skills, few master them and for others, circumstances are their masters.

1 : Workaholics (as mentioned by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in work brings solace)

Work is what people run from but workaholics are inspired by work. Work is what makes them keep going because it is their true love.

“To succeed in your mission, you must have single-minded devotion to your goal. Individuals like myself are often called ‘workaholics’.”

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

2 : Quest matters more than Destination

For ordinary people this might sound insane but it is what separates them from rest of the human race. During journey we fail, we get up, we learn and this is what builds a person for hurdles waiting for us.

3 : Live in the Moment

This is the secret behind success for many people; they just live in the moment rather regretting over the past or biting their nails over the future.

4 : Once they set their aim, they can’t be moved

People call their dream insane and label them as fools and they are very right because a fool doesn’t know his dream is unachievabale, and he strives hard, goes beyond his limits and crosses every hurdle till he gets what he wants.

“Pursue one great decisive aim force and determination.”

Carl von Clausewitz

5 : Audacious risk takers

They set initiations rather than waiting for someone else to do it for them. They set clear challenges, have faith in themselves and just go for it.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

Helen Keller
